Dr.Marcus Smith( Veterinarian & Owner )
I am a New Jersey native, but have been down south for over 18 years. While growing up in New Jersey I was involved in the family business of horse racing. My involvement in the daily care of horses and exposure to the variety of medical needs required by the horses kickstarted pursuit of becoming a veterinarian.
My first stop down south was for college at Clemson University. I received a bachelors of science degree in animal sciences. After achieving my undergraduate degree, I was headed to Alabama to attend Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. I was extremely honored to be accepted into the program as 1 of the 10 out of state students.
Following veterinary school, I was accepted into a rotating internship with an emphasis on critical care at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. After spending 13 months in the frigid Boston weather, I accepted a position at Cobb Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Marietta, GA. Our facility served as a referral hospital for the local veterinary clinics in metro-Atlanta area. I was on staff as an emergency room clinician from 2005-2013. During my years working in the ER, I treated a wide array of complex and advanced medical conditions and performed all types of complex soft tissue surgeries. While on staff at Cobb ER, I also enjoyed serving as a resource and consultant for local veterinarians. It was an incredible experience to be in a position to not only help the animals I cared for as patients, but give back to the veterinary community.
In 2013, I made the decision to finally hang up my ER hat and purchased Chattahoochee Animal Clinic. I truly enjoy the ability to form relationships with pet owners and their beloved 'other' family members. I still have a special interest in emergency cases and the treatment of the critically sick patients, but also enjoy managing the chronic conditions that some patients face as they age. I have taken a personal interest in osteoarthritis management and enjoy finding new ways to keep our older canine and feline friends mobile and pain free.
I always look forward to the '2nd opinion' case, so whenever you have additional questions on a previous diagnosis please come by. My personal goal as a veterinarian is to serve as a patient advocate and public educator in small animal health. I believe that an educated pet parent is a great pet parent and it is up to us as veterinarians to help them become great.
On the personal side, I am married to my beautiful wife, Lindsey. We have 2 boys, Hudson and Gavin. When I am not at the clinic(and that is rare!), I enjoy gardening, watching college and NFL football, and spending time with my family. I place a huge emphasis in family-life and hanging out together as a family on a Saturday night watching a game or movie is nirvana for me!
I look forward to seeing all current clients and potential clients soon.

I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was five years old. After attending Berry College for 3 years, I was accepted into UGA's Vet School Class of 1991. I met some fo my lifelong friends at UGA and continue to enjoy these relationships today.
My favorite thing about being a veterinarian is the many relationships I have found with so many clients and the bonds I continue to have with their pets. My goal as a veterinarian is to provide the best medicine and watch these patients grow in a healthy way. I enjoy constantly learning and growing throughout my career. My favorite pets are the senior pets, they have such sweet spirits and character.
My husband, Greg and I have been married since 1991. We have 3 handsome boys, Nathan, Noah and Nicholas. Nathan heads off to college next year. We stay active with marching band, travel baseball and tennis. We have a plethora of pets, including 8 cats, 8 dogs (including my Bonnie an English bulldog, that I held first during a c-section), 2 chinchillas, 2 tortoises and a hedgehog.
My job is my calling in life and I love what I do!
Born in Bogota, Colombia and moved to the states, New York to be exact, when I was four years old. My family and I relocated to Georgia in 1996. Fluent in both English and Spanish. I have always had a passion for animals. Ever since I can remember I have had what my father liked to call a 'zoo'. I attended Stetson University in DeLand, Florida where my studies revolved around Biology. I have practiced veterinary nursing for over 18 years and have also managed several clinics in New York and Georgia. I have two amazing kids, that are growing up way too fast! My favorite breed is the German Shepherd for their loyalty and intelligence. I also have an interest in reptiles, my favorite being bearded dragons. I also, do a fair amount of wildlife rescue, which my children have enjoyed through the years, with baby deer and squirrels as part of our family from time to time. On my free time I enjoy yoga, photography, painting and sculpting.
I have been working with dogs and cats for almost 30 years. I worked at my father’s animal hospital in Miami thru High School . While attending Tallahassee Community College I worked as a veterinary technician for 2 veterinary practices and an emergency hospital. After college I went on to pursue a career in music as a professional drummer for national and regional bands, but could not stay away from the animal field for long. I moved back to Miami and started working at my brother's animal hospital in Miami Beach as a veterinary technician and head of operations for Behavior Services for 5 years. My family relocated to Atlanta in 2007 and I worked as a veterinary technician for a local 'cats only' clinic for 5 years. In 2012, I joined the Chattahoochee Animal Clinic family. For the past 2 years I have worked with Super Cat Sitting and enjoy working and helping the cats in my care. I have extensive knowledge in behavior, emergency care, and all around nursing for dogs and cats. I currently live in Woodstock, GA with my wife and daughter and my furry family members which includes my cat George and 2 dogs Prince and Fuzzy.
Thanks for stopping by to see what we are all about. Well, I hail from upstate New York and relocated to the Atlanta area in 2001. I have been working in the animal field as a technician for over 8 years. Educating pet parents has been a passion of mine since entering the field. My hope is that when an owner leaves the office, they have a full understanding of their pet's health. At home, I have a senior diabetic pup named Angel.
